Story:
Ravuri Venkatesh aka RV (Arun Dev) is a young boy living in the city who loves playing cricket and wants to attend cricket coaching classes during the summer. However, his father pressures him to secure first rank in class before allowing him to join the coaching classes. After the quarterly exams, RV secures 10th rank, prompting his father to scold him. Consequently, his mother sends him to his grandparents’ village, Thotavaripalem, for the summer holidays.
There, RV meets Kasi Venkateshwarlu aka KV (Rohan Roy), a spirited local newspaper delivery boy who studies at the village school. RV dreams of buying an expensive saree for his mother and works hard towards achieving his goal. As RV befriends KV, the two develop an enduring childhood bond. How will their friendship grow, and what experiences will they share while exploring village life during the summer holidays? This forms the crux of the film.
What about on-screen performances?
Rohan Roy, who earned recognition with the 90s web series & Arun Dev, who impressed with 35 Chinna Katha Kaadu are the heart and soul of the film. These 2 little kids steal the show with their adorable performances as KV & RV respectively. Their friendship bond and their chemistry is the film’s backbone and it feels like watching two characters recreate those sweet little moments we experienced during our own childhood.
Jayasudha is excellent as the grandmother, and she will surely make our eyes wet in all the emotional scenes, especially in the climax portions. Her casting is a good choice, as there is an instant connection with that role.
Harsha Vardhan and Vasuki Anand are dependable as RV’s parents, while Harshini Koduri, who plays KV’s mother, is a pleasant surprise. She is too good in all the important emotional bits towards the end.
Rajeev Kanakala & Ramana Bhargav leave a mark in key supporting roles.
Kushi Soni, Mahesh Chintala, Durgaji Adabala, Ashok Yedida, Kadambari Kiran & all others are decent in their limited roles.
What about off-screen talents?
The story by Srikar Nayan G is a simple rural drama with relatable characters and heart-touching emotions. It tells a tender tale of childhood, friendship, and growing up, along with an interesting conflict that revolves around a mango tree. The film follows two boys from contrasting worlds whose time in a village brings them closer and leaves them with lessons that last.
The screenplay by Srikar Nayan G and additional screenplay by Kondalrao Addagalla is grounded and well-written. The writing beautifully explores the innocent and pure minds of children. The school song, the cricket sequence, the humor bits between the kids, and the summer holiday nostalgia bring back beautiful childhood memories in the first half, while the second half manages to engage with good emotional stretches and wraps it up with a satisfying climax despite a few predictable moments and some stretched scenes.
Director Srikar Nayan G does a commendable job with his whole presentation. His storytelling feels rooted and he needs appreciation for his sincerity in addressing how present-day circumstances affect children. He blends humour and emotions effectively, with an engaging first half and an emotional second half. Kudos to him for making the relationship between the 2 kids look real and the little things that made them connect are portrayed really well.
The dialogues by Kondalrao Addagalla are very well-written and feel authentic. Jayasudha’s lines towards the end leave a good impact.
The music by Sinjith Yerramilli is a major plus to the film. The songs are soulful. The Crush song, the School song, and the Friendship song complement the narrative neatly, while his background score not only elevates several scenes but also enhances their emotional impact.
The cinematography by Saiprakash Ummadisingu is excellent, while the edit by Santosh Naidu is neat, with a crisp runtime that is very essential for these kinds of films.
The production design by Kranthi Priyam and the costumes by Naga Sai Charan are impressive.
The production values by Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainments & VGB Films are adequate.
