Actress Regina Cassandra has spoken out amid the ongoing debate surrounding comments made by Janhvi Kapoor and Radhika Apte on Telugu cinema, saying that individual experiences should not be used to create a divide between the North and South Indian film industries.
In a recent interview, Regina said actors who feel uncomfortable working on a film have the choice to step away before signing or accepting a project, rather than criticizing an entire industry later. Referring to Janhvi Kapoor and Radhika Apte, she noted that both actresses are well-established and capable of making such decisions, adding that isolated experiences should not define Telugu cinema as a whole.
Highlighting that unfair treatment exists across film industries, Regina shared her own experience from Kesari Chapter 2 (2025), produced by Dharma Productions. She revealed that despite playing Akshay Kumar’s wife in the film, her name was missing from promotional campaigns, and even a song featuring her was posted online without tagging her.
Regina said she understands and supports women who face genuine challenges in the entertainment industry. However, she stressed that such issues should be addressed responsibly without portraying Telugu cinema or any regional film industry in a negative light. According to her, the focus should remain on improving workplace culture rather than fueling unnecessary North-South comparisons.
Her remarks come at a time when discussions about the work culture in Telugu cinema have sparked widespread debate on social media. Regina’s response has now added a fresh dimension to the conversation, with the actress urging the industry to avoid regional narratives and instead work towards fairness, respect, and equal treatment for everyone.
